FINALLY A QUALITY CHILDCARE FACILITY!!! This childcare facility is sooo classy! It is a far cry from what I have experienced when my baby attended another daycare (I will not mention any names). The location is a little further from my house then I would like but it is certainly worth the trip! I have an 8 month old that attends this school and I really appreciate the love and individualized attention that my child gets. The daily journals about my childs day bring a smile to my face when I read it because it allows me to know what my child is doing everyday. General History Gallery This eclectic gallery features exhibits on the local Native American culture, the early gold mining industry of our state, and influential local businesses. Discover some influential Cobb County residents who went on to become some of the most prominent Americans in history.

Native Americans were plentiful in the Cobb County area when early Americans settled in Marietta . Learn first-hand the role of Indians in America history. The gallery houses a collection of original pottery found in Cobb County, a unique collection of arrowheads (also called Bird Tips) and a rare bible dated 1860 written in the Cherokee language. The gallery also tells stories about the “Trail of Tears”, the directional markers used by the Indians called Thong Trees and about a significant leader of the Cherokee Indians called Sequoyah.

Influential Marietta families and homegrown businesses from rocking chairs to Lockheed/Martin are highlighted in the General History Gallery. A genuine Kluge Printing Press circa 1938, a large two tier wood and glass case from Rogers Grocery store and a Telephone Operator’s Switchboard used in the 1950s are just a few of the many remembrances of important local businesses.

Not to be missed is a delightful collection of Boy/Girl Scout memorabilia recounting a century of adventures!

Homelife Gallery The Homelife Gallery houses the Museum’s collection of antique and vintage artifacts that were popular to everyday life in the 19th and 20th Centuries.

Visitors will find a variety of inventions that were once used for entertainment and pleasure during this time period. Of homelife significance is our working music box collection with the earliest piece dated as 1885.

Another highlight of this gallery is a delightful 1940s kitchen vignette designed by the Museum’s real experts-volunteers who grew up in that era. Their role in the development of the kitchen setting was important in that the scene was created from memories of their own kitchens from childhood. Today’s children are amazed when they see an actual rotary phone and an original “ice box”. The kitchen reminds visitors of just how far we have come since the days of Victory Gardens and ration books.

A part of this gallery which is unique to our museum is a bedroom suite which belonged to Henry Greene Cole, a northern sympathizer who owned the Marietta Hotel during the Civil War. He was the son-in-law of Dix and Louisa Fletcher, owners of the Kennesaw House, and his support of the union was the reason the building was not burned by Sherman’s Forces. The display features his bedroom furniture which is distinctive because of the reverse glass painting on each piece.

Loved for its beautiful architecture, the old Marietta Courthouse was torn down in the 1960s and replaced with our more modern structure that exists today. Preserved pieces from that original structure are housed here including the jury rail, courtroom furniture and old record books detailing court proceedings from the past.

Military Gallery Our newest gallery, the Military Gallery, embodies the spirit of our museum. This gallery contains military displays from the Civil War, World War I and II, Korean War, Vietnam War and both Gulf Wars. Stories of bravery are the heartbeat of this gallery from Pearl Harbor, to German Concentration Camps to Sherman’s March to the Sea. Visitors can expect to see local battlefield relics, an extensive gun collection and uniforms of the men and women who have served our country.

Aviation Wing Explore the history of aviation at the Aviation Wing, presently comprised of 15.5 acres. Military aircraft history will come alive as you you see military aircraft from the latter half of the twentieth century some of which were produced locally in Marietta. Aviation in Marietta begins with Bell Aircraft in the early 1940s and continued to grow with Lockheed Martin from the 1950s to present. Aviation has played an integral role in Marietta’s history and with aircraft manufacturing continuing to be a prominent industry; the Aviation Wing desires to have visitors explore the complete story of our community.

The Aviation Wing is now open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
